Lentenor, the 3-year-old full brother of 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, broke his maiden today at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Fla., winning a 1 1/16-mile race on the turf in his third career start.
The son of Dynaformer is trained by Michael Matz, who guided the career of Barbaro.
‘We’ve always known he was a good horse,’ Matz said. ‘He’s a big boy, a bit immature, but he got a lot of experience today. We’ll see how he comes out of it and take a little time to evaluate what might be next.
‘Naturally, with a horse like this, there are thoughts of a Triple Crown race, but it’s much too early to say whether he’d be far enough along to consider something like that.’
