African American Bill Clinton advisor Vernon Jordan, after Rev. Joseph E. Lowery’s inaugural benediction: ‘This is the co-founder with Martin Luther King Jr. of the Southern Leadership Conference, giving the benediction at a presidential inaugural. It is beautiful. It is wonderful.’

‘Do you think Rev. Lowery ever imagined this would happen in his lifetime?’ asked Katie Couric.
