Usain Bolt, fresh off his world record 100-meter gold medal run on Saturday, took his first step toward Olympic history on Monday morning by advancing to the second round in the Beijing Games 200-meter race.
Bolt finished second in his heat behind Rondell Sorillo of Trinidad and Tobago, which wasn’t a problem because the top three runners in each heat advance.
Defending Olympics 200-meter champion Shawn Crawford and Wallace Spearmon also moved into Tuesday’s semifinals. The 200-meter final will be run on Wednesday.
Bolt hopes to become the first Olympic sprint double winner since Carl Lewis in 1984.
