David Henry Hwang confronts the language barrier in ‘Chinglish’

No one is more delighted — or surprised — than David Henry Hwang that his new play “Chinglish” has found its way to Broadway so soon after its successful premiere in June at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago.
The play, which opens Oct. 27 at the Longacre Theatre in New York, is one of Hwang’s best. But smart American plays aren’t usually Broadway’s cup of tea. “Chinglish,” however, has one decided advantage — it’s a very funny comedy about a very topical subject, Chinese-American relations.
